Learning about yourself is motivation

I was listening to an Interview last week with John Maxwell, a great author, and he was saying that one of the keys to happiness is to be always growing as a person, and one of the keys to always growing is to be learning.

This for me was powerful.  I love to learn.  I spend a lot of time driving now we live in the country, and I am always listening to podcasts audio books, always learning.  So much so that my kids think I am extremely boring… Not true I say as I sip on my green smoothie and get ready for bed at 8.30pm!!!!

Anyway moving on…

Tony Robbins says –

The fastest way to master any skill strategy or goal in life, is to model those who have already forged the path ahead.  If you can find someone who is already getting the results that you want and take the same actions they are taking, you can get the same results.

It doesn’t matter what your age gender or background is, modelling gives you the capacity to fast track your dreams and achieve more in a much shorter period of time.”

Learning from someone is energizing.  It also is a time saver.  You might be ok to waste your own time but we are hugely conscious of wasting someone elses time.  It also helps us to be more focused and committed to the goal if we are learning with or through someone else.

Also by learning from someone who has achieved what you are looking for you are actually fast tracking or hacking the way to your goal as they have tried and tested the path first and found what works and what doesn’t.

You can start your learning through different sources:

Books - are a great source of learning.  Many people say to me I don’t have time to read.  I say the same thing I say when people say they don’t have time to do yoga, I say start with 5 minutes..  I must admit though a lot of my books I read I consume through listening.   I love to multy task so I listen to books whilst exercising, in the gym, driving, cooking etc.  Learn as you move!

Podcasts – I am a podcast junkie.  I just cant get enough of them.  I listen to anything from Richard Fiddler conversation hour on radio 702, to parenting 101, I love Rich Roll who interviews so well and very interesting people, 100 not out is also a great one.. Theree are so many.  Just think of your subject, google podcasts on it, and you will have loads to choose from.

Mentor - Finding good mentors isn’t easy, but being able to find them is gold. Unlike the previous methods, you can interact with your mentors. They can then give you specific advice for your situation.

If you've never had a mentor, and the thought of using one is new to you, think back through your life. There is a good chance that you have had a mentor and maybe not realized it. Usually our first mentors are our parents, or another close family member.
As we get older, teachers often take this role. These mentors are great for certain times in our lives, however, if you are ready to get ahead in your life, perhaps your wellness journey, it is time to find a mentor who can help you get to the next level.

A good mentor will help you stay accountable to your goals, they will help you pay attention and stay on track. When you get frustrated and want to give up they will push you harder and keep you going.

I believe we have become DISCONNECTED with ourselves and each other and its this disconnect that I work with people to bridge the gap.

Lifestyle changes are a process that take time and I believe require support. Often we know that our ‘wellness” is not where we want it to be, we know we could do it so much better.
