Boost Your Energy and Nourish Your Body:

Harnessing the Power of Posture and Yoga.

Now we all know that sitting for long periods is unsuitable. It leads to poor posture, compressions of the spine, tight hips etc. But did you know that how you sit at your desk impacts not just your posture but your oxygen levels, affecting your nutrient levels

However, a powerful tool can complement good posture and provide additional benefits – yoga. No surprise there.

So let me explain how yoga and specific breathing techniques can help improve posture, increase oxygenation, enhance energy levels, and optimize nutrient intake. Sounds perfect....

1. Posture Alignment: Yoga is renowned for focusing on body awareness and posture alignment. Practising yoga poses, such as Mountain Pose (Tadasana) and Warrior Pose (Virabhadrasana), helps strengthen the muscles responsible for maintaining good posture. Regular yoga can correct imbalances, improve spinal alignment, and promote an upright position at your desk, reducing the strain on your body.

2. Deep Breathing for Oxygenation: Yoga greatly emphasises conscious breathing techniques, known as pranayama.

Deep breathing exercises, such as Diaphragmatic Breathing (Belly or Abdominal Breathing) and Alternate Nostril Breathing (Nadi Shodhana), can enhance oxygenation and increase energy levels.

Practising these techniques regularly can improve lung capacity, increase oxygen intake, and invigorate your body.

3.  Enhanced Blood Flow and Nutrient Delivery: Yoga asanas (poses) and sequences often involve gentle stretches, twists, and inversions. These movements stimulate blood circulation and improve the flow of nutrients throughout the body.

Poses like Forward Bends (Uttanasana) and Legs-Up-The-Wall (Viparita Karani) encourage blood flow to the brain, nourishing it with oxygen and nutrients, boosting cognitive function and energy levels.

4. Improved Digestion and Nutrient Absorption: Certain yoga postures, such as seated twists, can help stimulate the digestive system.

Twisting movements massage the internal organs, promoting digestion and optimal nutrient absorption.

Regular yoga can support a healthy digestive system, ensuring the efficient uptake of nutrients from your meals.

5. Muscular Release and Relaxation: Yoga incorporates relaxation techniques, such as Savasana (Corpse Pose) and various gentle stretches, which help release muscular tension accumulated during prolonged sitting. Relaxed muscles contribute to better energy flow and reduce fatigue. Integrating yoga into your routine allows you to unwind and rejuvenate your body, improving overall energy levels.
 

OK, so the reality is:
Combining good posture at your desk with a regular yoga practice offers numerous benefits.

Yoga helps align your posture, strengthens muscles, and enhances body awareness, allowing you to sit for longer periods of time and giving you greater awareness of your breathing.
The breathing techniques utilized in yoga increase oxygenation, improve blood flow and support nutrient distribution throughout the body.

Yoga's positive impact on digestion, muscular release, and relaxation further enhances energy levels and nutrient absorption.

You know you are sitting at work for too long. Working on laptops that drop your head forward and down puts a crazy amount of pressure on the neck. Maybe you could change to a bigger screen, that would help your neck, but if you start or continue with your daily yoga practice, your body won't fall apart from all the sitting that we, as busy people, are doing.
