Goal setting for 2018
Setting a New Years Resolution
The beginning of the year is a natural time to set new goals. I know every year I set them, and it wasn’t until I used this formula that I finally succeeded with seeing them through.
Unfortunately, well-intentioned resolutions often fall by the wayside as early as the middle or end of January. You may start a new exercise routine or healthy diet with gusto but when the novelty wears off, you’re back to where you started.
It doesn’t have to be this way. Believe it or not, there is a way to create healthy goals that will last the whole year.
Start with the end in Mind
First, figure out what it is you wish to achieve in the end. Then work backwards from that. Have the end in mind.
Perhaps you want more energy, better sleep, you want to lose a few extra kilos or to do more yoga, maybe start meditation, what ever it is start with the end in mind.
Don't rush this part. Take a few hours to write everything down then slowly narrow it down and more until you have your goals for 2018.
Use a pen and paper to do this. When its on paper you are looking your goals in the eye, they are down on paper. Our mind is a powerful thing. When it can more objectively look at things instead of swirling them around in your head. Even if in the end you throw it away you still get the benefits.
Be detailed and descriptive in your goals
Once you have the end goal in your mind and down on paper, start to get descriptive and very clear on what that looks like - the end result looks like. How you will feel, what you will do. For example, if your goal was to lose 10 kilos, what wold that look like, exactly where would you like to loose that on your body, would you need to change your diet, want would help you in achieving your goal.
This way when your mind starts to challenge you on why you should give up on your goal you can easily read what you wrote down on your piece of paper and why it is important to you, why you want to achieve it, then read the clear steps you wrote down to achieve it. THis way your brain cant sabotage the plan.
What the mind can't visualize, the mind can't achieve. Thoughts are things and the more time you spend describing and visualizing your goals, the better your chances will be to actually reach them.
I have many suggestions for this but the first one would be write your goals your inspirations, where you can see them. The bathroom mirror s good or a post it note on the fridge is also good.
Secondly have a script you read to yourself as if you have achieved your goal and how it feels to have achieved it
Systems and strategies matter
The S.M.A.R.T system is a goal setting technique that is popular with everyone from life coaches to sports psychologists to business mentors.
It stands for Specific - Measurable - Achievable - Realistic - Timely
Use these 5 steps in creating your health goals and you're well on your way to success
When someone knows what your goals are and even better they are doing the goal with you, they hold you accountable. By asking you to give an account of where you are in the process of achieving that goal. Accountability puts a whole new meaning on to the goal and achieving it rather than letting anyone down. If a goal is set and only one person knows it, does it really have any power? Many times, no. A goal isn't as powerful if you don't have one or more people who can hold you accountable to it.
Why do I need to set Goals?
Having goals is the fundamental key to success. Goals let us create our future in advance of it happening. Setting goals help us grow and expand, pushing ourselves to transform in ways that, just maybe, we never imagined. Were willing to bet if you're reading this page you've set a goal or two in your life - but are you goal setting effectively? Will your goals transform your life in the ways you want?
Making your goals interesting
Why do so many people make New year's resolution the fail. One reason is their goals are not exciting not compelling enough. You need to come up with a goal that makes you jump up in the morning and be excited to stay on track to achieve your goals.
